Description: Build a Wild Thing! – Describing, Listening & Following Directions Language Activity Bring some Wild Thing fun into your speech and language sessions with this interactive Build a Wild Thing activity! Students choose from a variety of Wild Thing bodies and features to create their own unique creature while practicing functional language skills. This activity is designed especially for partner or small-group work. One student builds a Wild Thing without the other student looking, then uses verbal directions and descriptive language to explain what their creature looks like. Their partner listens and attempts to build the same Wild Thing before students reveal and compare their creations. The activity naturally targets attributes, descriptive vocabulary, spatial concepts and prepositions, following directions, giving directions, listening comprehension, asking and answering questions, perspective taking, comparing same/different, and expressive language. It can also be used to support story retell and creative language.
