Description: My Wild Thing Land – Creative Language & Describing Activity Let students use their imaginations to create their very own Wild Thing Land! This two-level language activity provides both visual supports for emerging language learners and a more open-ended option for students ready to generate their own ideas. The first activity includes visual choices across six categories: land type, sky, water, things that live there, special things, and extras. Students can select from the pictured options to design and describe their own faraway land, making this a great choice for students who benefit from structured visual supports. The second activity removes the picture choices and encourages students to use their own vocabulary and imagination to describe their Wild Thing Land. Sentence prompts target details about the setting as well as describing, expanding sentences, making choices, explaining ideas, and using creative language. Students also describe how their land looks and feels, what they would do there, and their favorite part of their creation. This activity is perfect for targeting expressive language, descriptive vocabulary, attributes, sentence formulation and expansion, categories, answering questions, reasoning, and creative language. Great for speech therapy, special education, mixed language groups, AAC users, and differentiated instruction, and pairs perfectly with Where the Wild Things Are.
