Description
Objective: To help students understand and interact with the structures and functions of DNA. This activity is intended for students who have already some background knowledge about the topic. My recommendation would be to encourage students to complete this activity as reinforcement at the end of class, as homework, or immediately after guided notes. Vocabulary explained and applied within the activity: double helix, "twisted ladder", nucleotide, strand, complementary, phosphate group, deoxyribose sugar, nitrogenous base, antiparallel, base pair, base pair rules, sugar-phosphate backbone, adenine, thymine, cytosine, guanine, hydrogen bonds, genetic information, etc. Outline: - 1 title slide - 11 scaffolded informational slides, each with an interactive task and color coded vocabulary words - 7 randomized quick check slides to allow students a chance to recall and apply essential vocabulary and details from the walkthrough This is the first walkthrough activity of the "Everything DNA" unit (still in development).
