Description: This is a Boom Deck to practice pre-writing strokes. The child can use their index finger or a stylus pen on the screen. Pre-writing skills are the fundamental skills children need to develop before they are able to write. These are the pencil strokes that most letters, numbers and early drawings are comprised of. |, —, O, +, /, square, \, X, and Δ. Some cards offer 2 lines for the opportunity for the adult to complete a line first and then the child to imitate. Observations: Look at pen grasp if using a stylus pen. Prompt for a tripod grip. Look at their motor control and ability to stay on the line. Do they follow the directional arrows. Other activities to use alongside: Form the shapes and lines in other media such as sand and paint. Make the shapes and lines out of sand paper and then trace with the finger for enhanced tactile feedback. Make the shapes and lines out of play dough. Trace the shapes and lines on the child's back and then ask them to draw it.
