September 2026 Month, Day and Year Practice with Purpose This age-respectful calendar resource is designed for older students with disabilities and is designed to be repeated frequently. Students practice reading, copying, and fingerspelling the month, day, and year while building functional literacy and greater independence. Fingerspelling provides a visual-motor connection to literacy, giving students another pathway for practicing letter and number recognition, spelling, and orthographic learning while supporting finger isolation, motor planning, and visual-motor coordination. Fingerspelling can benefit many learners—not only students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Students also develop an awareness of special days and observances in September and why we celebrate or recognize them, connecting calendar skills to the world around them. Practice includes meaningful September dates, holidays, seasonal changes, and real-world observances. The resource is suitable for transition instruction, independent work, classroom routines, teletherapy, and substitute folders. In other words: we're putting literacy practice on their fingers.
