Life Stories are designed to be used as a priming tool to allow students to prepare for situations that they may encounter in their daily lives. It’s best practice for students to read/listen to their life stories before a situation occurs (i.e., first thing in the morning when they arrive at school, before planned peer interactions, before a community trip, etc.). It’s not best practice to use life stories in the moment when an unexpected behavior is occurring or immediately after. Students need to be in a neutral mindset and in a state of well-being when they read/listen to their life story. Core vocabulary board included on the last card of this deck: "feel, enjoy, play, game, frustrated, happy, toys, fun, friends, choice." SEL Standards Alignment: CASEL Self-Awareness CASEL Self-Management CASEL Responsible Decision-Making CASEL Social Awareness CASEL Relationship Skills Functional SPED "I can" Statements: I can practice taking turns with others. I can share toys and games with others. I can take turns playing a game. I can ask for a turn to play with a toy. I can take a turn in the game. I can say, “Now you go.” I can say, “Now you do it." I can keep taking turns playing with a toy. I can keep taking turns playing a game. I can wait patiently when it is someone else's turn.
