Description: Students will practice reading comprehension skills while listening and/or reading short stories (passages) about Thanksgiving. They will learn how modern children celebrate Thanksgiving and how the Pilgrim children celebrated. The passages are related and build on each other. There are two parts to the deck. The parts are "Children Today" and "Pilgrim Children," which can be accessed from the menu on slide 2. Directions are on slide 1. Tab navigation is provided. The passages will help your students understand how Thanksgiving is celebrated today and back when the Pilgrims had the first Thanksgiving. The Deck: - Each slide has a picture clue to help with understanding. There is a different picture on each slide. The pictures are colorful and clear. - Each slide has a passage that is about five sentences long. The sentences vary in length. They contain high-frequency words, decodable words, Thanksgiving vocabulary words, and words with inflected endings. - The students will read a Wh- question and click one of three answer choices. RL.1.1 Ask and answer questions about key details in a text. RL.2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key de RL.1.2 Retell stories, including key details, and demonstrate understanding of their central message or lesson.
