Your students will have fun learning and reviewing vocabulary for talking about rocks, minerals, and gems with this illustrated word search. They'll practice reading and spelling the following words: amethyst, diamond, emerald, garnet, onyx, opal, ruby, sapphire, topaz, and turquoise. Colorful illustrations contextualize the vocabulary and highlight the connection between the polished stones found in jewelry and the fields of mining and geology. Audio recordings of the vocabulary words are included to support emergent readers and models pronunciation. I created this word search for my own students, who are learning English as a foreign language in elementary school. A few have been avid rock collectors who enjoyed exploring my rock collection and comparing it with their own. I created this word search, and its accompanying crossword puzzle, with those children in mind. Supports the following standards: - Common Core Language Arts: CCRA.L.2: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. - WIDA: ELD-SI .K-3: Inform: Define and classify objects or concepts.
