Description

Objective: To help students understand and interact with the stages of cell cycle, mitosis, checkpoints, and cancer through an interactive experience. Students will read short passages and descriptions on each slide to aid in comprehension of the topic. This honors activity is intended for students who have received some direct instruction about the topic, though the walkthrough is scaffolded to help students who benefit from differentiated explanations or who may have missed instruction. My recommendation would be to encourage students to complete this activity as reinforcement at the end of class, as homework, or immediately after guided notes to apply reading comprehension skills. This walkthrough includes vocabulary such as: cell cycle, cyclin proteins, checkpoints, DNA replication, G1, S, G2, M phases; mitosis (PMAT+C), identical daughter cells, cancer, tumors, apoptosis, mutagens, carcinogens, oncogenes, etc. Outline: - 1 title slide - 6 slides interacting with parts of the cell cycle diagram and checkpoints - 7 slides interacting with the phases of mitosis - 2 slides explaining G0 phase - 5 slides explaining causes of cancer ***NOTE: There are 0 practice or quick check slides. This is intended to be an instructional supplement to reinforce vocabulary and major concepts.
