If you need a comprehension resource that focuses on main idea and details this one will do that for you. Each slide has a nonfiction selection with a stated main idea. Students choose which of the two details best supports that main idea directly. I created this main idea resource for upper elementary (grades 4-5) students to be able to demonstrate their understanding of nonfiction texts by choosing the most appropriate details in an interactive venue. I wrote the passages to be just long enough for teachers to quickly assess whether students know the skill. Many of the topics lean towards science themes. Use this deck in your literacy blocks, early morning work, exit tickets, or as whole group guided reading. The topics could be springboards for further research for those gifted and talented students.
