Description

Life Stories are designed to be used as a priming tool to allow students to prepare for situations that they may encounter in their daily lives. It’s best practice for students to read/listen to their life stories before a situation occurs (i.e., first thing in the morning when they arrive at school, before planned peer interactions, before a community trip, etc.). It’s not best practice to use life stories in the moment when an unexpected behavior is occurring or immediately after. Students need to be in a neutral mindset and in a state of well-being when they read/listen to their life story. SEL Standards Alignment: CASEL Self-Management CASEL Social Awareness CASEL Relationship Skills CASEL Responsible Decision-Making Functional SPED "I can" Statements: I can identify the emotions I feel at the beginning of the school year. I can learn about classroom rules. I can learn about new routines and review old routines. I can make new friends and see old friends. I can apply my coping skills or calming strategies in real-world situations. I can practice functional life skills to help increase my level of independence.
