Description: This age-respectful calendar resource is designed for older students with disabilities and can be used repeatedly throughout the school year. Students practice reading, copying, and fingerspelling the month, day, and year while building functional literacy and greater independence. Fingerspelling provides a visual-motor connection to literacy, giving students another pathway for practicing letter and number recognition, spelling, and orthographic learning while supporting finger isolation, motor planning, and visual-motor coordination. Fingerspelling can benefit many learners—not only students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Students also develop an awareness of special days and observances in the fall and why they are celebrated or recognized, connecting calendar skills to the world around them. Practice includes meaningful special dates, holidays, seasonal changes, and real-world observances.
