Description: This deck is a result of years of experience helping kids with speech issues. It is critical for children to have awareness of their oral motor structures and functioning to achieve any success in therapy. I have created this child-friendly deck for them to get engaged in this activity and develop a deeper understanding of their oral motor structures. This deck, I believe, is where every speech therapist should begin working with their students. It would expedite the achievement of their speech goals to a great extent. Ideal candidates for this deck would be: - Children with speech sound disorders, apraxia of speech, dysarthria, or phonological processing challenges who may have underlying differences in how they plan, coordinate, or execute these movements. (Research shows that improving kinesthetic awareness is foundational for children with CAS (childhood apraxia of speech) and motor-based speech difficulties) (Strand & McCauley, 2019). - Kids with speech sound disorders: They will develop a strong sense of control over their oral structures. This sense of control builds self-confidence and active participation, which is essential for generalizing new skills (ASHA, Evidence-Based Practice Guidelines). - Kids with orofacial myofunctional disorders: Orofacial myology practices show that kids who understand their oral anatomy have better carryover with tongue and lip exercises (ASHA SIG 5, Orofacial Disorders).
