Description: Your students will have fun reviewing past simple irregular verbs with this Easter-themed grammar game. In this engaging mystery picture reveal game, students will read a story about one child’s experience making Easter eggs and holding an Easter egg hunt. The story consists of twenty sentences, which are presented one at a time to highlight the target grammar point. An audio recording is provided for each sentence to support emergent and struggling readers. Each sentence contains an irregular verb in the past simple form, which students must type correctly to complete a piece of the puzzle. The following verbs are included: be, break, catch, choose, eat, fall, find, get, have, hide, leave, make, put, run, and take. A list of infinitive and past simple forms is given on the first slide to review and clarify verb forms and spellings. This resource supports the following second and third grade common core standards for English language arts: 2.1.D: Form and use the past tense of frequently occurring irregular verbs. 3.1.D: Form and use regular and irregular verbs. 3.1.E: Form and use the simple verb tenses. This resource would also be appropriate for English language learners in upper elementary or middle school who are learning to use past simple irregular verbs correctly.
