Description: This deck is part of my Narrative/Story Retell series. Research shows story retell is a solid strategy for improving listening and reading comprehension. I've found that before I can expect students to generate narratives while writing or speaking, or retelling stories, I must first directly teach the idea of 'story elements'. This is an abstract concept and is a big reason why so many students have a hard time committing a concrete idea of this in their minds. Their narratives are disorganized or disconnected, in speaking, writing, and retelling texts. In this series of decks: Multisensory methods are utilized to teach 7 story elements: character, setting, problem, middle feeling, action, solution, and end feeling.
