Description: Your English learners students will develop speaking and writing skills with this fun storytelling game. It's a great way to get kids talking and to review vocabulary for talking about family, home and community. In this game, children work with a partner to invent a story based on a random selection of pictures. There are approximately eighty colorful illustrations of basic vocabulary words commonly taught in elementary ESL. These include family members, animals, toys, foods, furniture, clothes, vehicles, emotions, places and weather. Students can then type or audio-record their story, referring back to the picture cards as needed. Each image has an optional word label for students who need extra support with spelling and vocabulary. This activity works well in both ESL and ELA classes. Play the game with your English learners to develop their speaking fluency and vocabulary, or use it in your English Language Arts class for a fun creative writing lesson. This activity is a great way to introduce or practice the writing process. After developing their ideas with a partner, your students can type and save their work, or audio-record the stories and listen to the result. Use the typing option to practice written conventions like spelling and punctuation, or try the audio-recording option to build oral fluency. Please note that, due to privacy regulations on voice recordings, only typed stories can be saved and reviewed by the teacher at a later date.
