Description: Challenge and engage your students with these sudoku word puzzles that connect thematically to the Day of the Dead, which is celebrated on November second in many Mexican and Mexican-American communities. Your students will enjoy solving the sudoku puzzles for words associated with this autumn holiday which has much in common with Halloween. While they play, they will develop their critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. The following words are included: bakery, basket, candle, family, flower, flying, frames, graves, guitar, masked, Mexico, paints, second, and sugary. Audio recordings provide listening practice, model pronunciation and support vocabulary development. Each recording uses the target word in a sentence describing the picture. Vibrant photography contextualizes the vocabulary for English learners and brings the words to life. Each puzzle contains six letters - perfect for kids in upper elementary. The puzzles are presented in random order so that students have a different experience each time they play. Although Sudoku is traditionally played individually, I like to use these word sudokus for pair work with my English learners. I see a ton of benefits! They are motivated to speak in English, they review the alphabet, they develop cooperative learning skills, and they are able to shine regardless of language level since the ability to spot patterns isn't language-dependent.
