Description: The Describing Community Locations deck contains a set of photographs of different locations within the home (such as a bedroom and a kitchen) and outside the home (such as an ice rink, the mountains, the mall, etc.). This is an expressive activity. This means an adult is needed to successfully complete this deck. This allows for a huge amount of flexibility. The adult can ask for as many details as is appropriate for the learner's current developmental level. Instructions: Each card contains a picture of a location. Ask your learner to tell you about the location in a manner that fits the developmental level of your learner. You might ask a general question such as, "tell me about a creek," or be more specific such as, "Tell me three things about the park," or, "Tell me five awesome things about going to the zoo." Each card contains suggested indirect prompts you might use to assist your learner in thinking about different aspects of the location if they are struggling. Ideally, running this program with a visual support in this way will assist your learner to develop more flexible ways of thinking when it comes time to conduct this activity intraverbally (without visual supports).
