Description

This is a 41-card scavenger hunt that can be used to teach students about some Black Americans who made an impact on American history. While completing the hunt, students will learn about the lives and accomplishments of 20 different Black Americans. This includes Arthur Ashe, Barack Obama, Barbara Jordan, Benjamin Davis, Jr., Bessie Coleman, Billie Holiday, Booker T. Washington, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Daniel Hale Williams, Elijah McCoy, Fred Jones, Frederick Douglass, Garrett Morgan, George Washington Carver, Guion Bluford, Harriet Tubman, Hattie McDaniel, Jackie Robinson and James Weldon Johnson. Each card covers a single individual from the time of their birth to their death or current status tells about their lives and accomplishments. Students receive instant feedback on whether or not they chose the correct answer. The final card in the deck challenges students to write 3 interesting things they learned from the hunt. It can be used as a Black History Month activity, to supplement a study of American history, to enhance the understanding of a story, or practice for reading informational text.
