This resource is meant to be paired with the adorable storybook: "How To Catch A Mermaid" by Adam Wallace and illustrated by Andy Elkerton. There are many adorable versions of this story available on YouTube. After reading the story choose which activity you'd like to do and select it from the Table of Contents page. There are 7 activities included- follow the colored arrows on the right to move forward. When you reach the stop sign that activity is finished (clicking the stop sign will bring you home): 1. Find & Match Sensory Bin- Select a category. Ask students to label then match it to the images outside the box. There are 4 included: Story Characters, Colored Shells, Story Objects, and Ocean animals. 2. 15 Wh/Comprehension Questions (field of 4 responses). 3. 15 Yes/No questions. 4. 10 Sequencing Events/Story Retelling cards (with 3 or more parts to sequence). 5. 10 What's Inside The Clam? Inferences- ask students to guess what's in the clam based on the descriptions/clues in the thought bubbles. Then slide the clam shell over to reveal. 6. 15 Receptive Vocabulary (story characters and items within a field of 4) 7. 1 Open Ended Scene: move the characters and items around to build a scene.
