Guess the Emotion is a live social-communication activity designed to practice both expressing and interpreting emotions through voice, facial expression, and body language. Players alternate between a Communication Partner Card and a Student/Client Card. After each person acts out their card, the other player uses the Guess the Emotion Card to identify the emotion being communicated. 1. Communication Partner Turn: The communication partner may be a teacher, counselor, parent, clinician, peer, or another communication partner who can independently determine how to portray the situation. 2. Guess the Emotion: After the communication partner finishes, the student/client selects the emotion they believe was communicated: Happy | Angry | Surprised | Sad 3. Student/Client Turn: Next, the student/client receives a more detailed card. The communication partner then uses the Guess the Emotion Card to identify the emotion and explain which cues helped them decide. 4. Continue Alternating. The activity continues in this pattern: Partner Card → Guess the Emotion → Student/Client Card → Guess the Emotion → Partner Card... That way, the student/client practices both sides of social communication: receptive: interpreting another person's emotional message expressive: making their own emotional message clear enough for someone else to understand
