I love all the flashlight activities on Boom, so I had to make one that would have enough thematic vocabulary to keep my students with autism interested, while making sure that the words they were learning were related. I also wanted written word prompts to support verbal prompts, thus the checklists. Choose from six busy scenes that are full of thematic vocabulary (school, autumn, vacation, ocean, soccer, bedroom). The preview will show the menu/home page, the autumn scene, the autumn checklist, and the school scene. The flashlight provides a motivating device for students to stay engaged in this conversational activity. Great for working on naming, categorization, describing, defining, discussing part/whole, synonyms, formulating sentences, making up stories, articulation, social skills such as waiting, and task persistence. The checklists can be used either before, during, or after looking at the scenes. You can move back and forth between a scene and its checklist. The checklists also have an optional space to type. Use this space to type more words, to describe words, to make a new kind of list (all of the fruits, containers, clothing items, etc), or for any other teaching necessity. Words can be circled or uncircled by clicking on them. Please leave feedback!
