Description: Filtering Upsetting Thoughts Activity This activity is designed to help young people with ASD and other disorders learn ways to regulate emotional verbal outbursts. The activity raises awareness of what things are okay or not okay to say when you are upset and introduces the concept that thoughts should be “filtered” before they become spoken words. A separate version designed to be printed and cut out can be found at AutismTeachingStrategies.com. In this Boom Card version allows you can drag the statement cards to boxes to sort them. It works well in telehealth, or any time you want to do this activity without having to print everything. The cards at the beginning are provided as a tutorial to go over with kids before you start the actual activity. Joel Shaul, LCSW Boom Card by Marty Jones, MSEd
