In this 5th grade math activity, students will use the butterfly method (or cross multiplying method) to add fractions with unlike denominators. Aligned to CCSS 5.NF.A.1 PLEASE NOTE: Some questions will require students to simplify the answer to its lowest form. This deck includes 29 Boom Cards plus 1 example card that clearly models the Butterfly Method. All questions are color coded to help students visually follow the cross multiplication steps and better understand how the fraction addition works.
