This deck is perfect for a fun, beginning of the year comprehension lesson. Students will get to be detectives as they use the clues and their schema(prior knowledge) to infer the answer. Making inferences can be difficult for young students and riddles are a perfect way to begin that important comprehension skill. The short clues from the riddles and the pictures help give support to beginning readers. This deck is perfect for Back to School and the beginning of the year. All of the riddles focus on school supplies and items you might find in a classroom. This would be a great way to talk about the different supplies and even review your expectations on how to use them. Teachers can play the deck whole group with younger students. The class can read the clues together and then infer what the item is. This gives the teacher time to model his or her thinking as they make an inference. This deck lends itself to great discussions and questioning. Students always love being detectives and using the clues to solve the inference mystery.
