Description: Do your students struggle with root words and affixes? When reading, my students skip over longer and more complex words. Unfortunately, much of the meaning is carried in these words. So I wanted to give my students some strategies for analyzing those longer and more complex words. This activity begins with a quick review of prefixes, root words, and suffixes. Students then identify and drag prefixes, root words, and suffixes into the correct box. Finally, students are given word parts and asked to classify them as prefixes, roots, or suffixes. The words are then reassembled and students practice saying the words.
