Description: Understanding how an author uses figurative language in a text is difficult. Using context clues and background knowledge are two ingredients to understanding what different phrases mean in a text. This set of task cards will ask students to identify what type of figurative language is used, and the meaning of the figurative language. To engage students in the work, over twenty-five fun aliens are found within the cars. Students will enjoy looking at the cards, and reading about the different lives each alien lives. In addition, they can compete in a board game where they get to move forward if they get a question correct.
