Description: Use this strategy game to motivate older students in speech therapy! Your students will achieve high repetitions for articulation goals WHILE having fun with an opponent. This articulation game allows you to target specific articulation sounds and word positions, including each specific consonant blend and vocalic /r/ sound. The targets are presented as words, rather than pictures, in order to appeal to upper elementary, middle school, and even high school students. You can use the words by themselves, or increase the complexity by having students produce the word within a made-up phrase or sentence. The object of the game is to be the first person to get 4 tokens in a (straight) line of 4. Lines can be made horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. On each turn, students "drop" a token of their selected color (red or yellow) by placing it in the lowest available space in the chosen column. While working to achieve their own line of four, a player is simultaneously trying to block their opponent from winning. This element of strategy is highly motivating for older students to participate in the activity and complete practice trials. The deck also includes a card without words, and another with word blanks that you can fill in with your own selected target words. This is a great way for students to help identify personalized words with their target sound(s). Column numbers are included for students playing virtually without mouse control.
