This 20-card deck targets MS-ESS1-1 and covers the three major phenomena of the Earth-sun-moon system: moon phases, solar and lunar eclipses, and seasons. Students use and interpret models to identify moon phase positions, predict eclipse conditions, explain why eclipses are rare, and connect Earth's tilted axis to seasonal patterns in both hemispheres. Several cards present different orbital positions of Earth and ask students to identify the correct season for each hemisphere, requiring students to read the diagram rather than rely on memorization. Questions include multiple choice, image-based model analysis, drag and drop ordering, and phenomenon-based reasoning tasks. All content is aligned to NGSS MS-ESS1-1 and uses only grade-appropriate vocabulary. Pairs with the companion Earth-Sun-Moon Vocabulary deck for a complete unit bundle. Ideal for middle school earth and space science practice, formative assessment, or review.
