You're ready to jump into a student's brand new articulation goal in speech therapy. But wait, before you work on eliciting the sound, you need the student to know about their articulators. They need to understand the anatomy used to produce the sound before your cues will be helpful in targeting the sound. This lesson will help you get things rolling! It helps teach about the articulators of speech production (lips, teeth, alveolar ridge, etc.) using big, colorful photos and clear, child-friendly language. The lesson and activities are designed to... ✅ Be INTERACTIVE in locating each articulator ✅ Provide REPETITION of the concepts and oral anatomy vocabulary throughout the deck ✅ Check for UNDERSTANDING by way of labeling pictures of the mouth ✅ Offer a way for students to complete the lesson INDEPENDENTLY through the use of AUDIO CLIPS of the text on each card. This allows nonreading students to complete the lesson on their own outside of therapy if needed. Several cards at the end of the lesson give you an opportunity to talk with your students about the articulators used for specific speech sounds. Use this activity to lay the groundwork for successful articulation therapy by ensuring your students know which parts of the mouth help produce the speech sound(s) they will be working on.
