Description

This scavenger hunt will teach students basic information about the French exploration and colonization along the Mississippi River. While completing the hunt, students will learn about the expansion of New France into the Great Lakes region, Marquette, Jolliet and La Salle's exploration of the Mississippi River and the establishment of Louisiana. To complete the hunt, students answer 10 multiple-choice questions. First, they read a question and its possible answers. Then they read a passage where the answer is found. If they choose the correct answer, they are directed to the next question. If they choose an incorrect answer, they can revisit the passage to find the correct one. The final card in the deck challenges students to write 3 interesting things they learned from the hunt. This hunt can be used as a supplement to a study of U. S. History, New France, or the exploration of America, to provide background information for a story, to practice reading informational text, for social studies or reading centers, or as an easy activity for a sub.
