Description: Students will practice creating simple equivalent fractions in this fun, animated activity. - Students will see a fraction - They will be given a number to multiply, or divide, both the numerator and the denominator by. - They will type in the new numerator and denominator, creating an equivalent fraction. Students will use multiplication and division skills within 100 to create the equivalent fractions. Suggested supplemental activity: When playing this deck with my class, we also drew some of the smaller fractions (i.e. 1/3 = 2/6) on our dry erase boards to show that the equivalent fractions represented the same amount. 3.NF.3 Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size. a. Understand two fractions as equivalent (equal) if they are the same size or the same point on a number line. b. Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions, e.g., 1/2 = 2/4, 4/6 = 2/3. 4.NF.1 Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction (n × a)/(n × b) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
