Description: Elementary or students who need life skills and safety awareness will read the scenario on each card and choose if it describes a safe or unsafe behavior. The cards all deal with cold weather, ice, and snow. This deck is perfect to help students determine if situations that they may encounter in the real world are safe. There are 30 different situations that discuss things like making snow tunnels and playing in them (unsafe because they easily collapse), wearing the proper clothing (safe to avoid frostbite on long exposures), skating on community ponds with a green flag (safe because ice has been tested), sledding in areas with lots of trees or pipes (unsafe), staying outside with wet gloves for a long time (unsafe), etc. These skills are not ones that kids will need every day, but especially in areas that do not get a lot of snow or cold weather, these lessons are very important. I grew up in areas that got a lot of snow and all of these situations are things that we were taught to ensure that we did not do things that we thought may be fun, but could have led to us getting very hurt or worse. Each unsafe situation I listed happened to a child that I grew up with or in our surrounding area.
