Inference This and Learn: Look, Think, Choose — Level 2 Take beginning inferencing skills one step further! Level 2 continues teaching students to LOOK at the picture, THINK about the clues, and CHOOSE the best answer, while adding an important new skill: explaining WHY. Students are presented with 10 illustrated social and everyday situations. First, they choose between two possible feelings. Then, they select between two possible reasons or visual clues to explain why the person may be feeling that way. Rather than simply identifying an emotion, students begin learning to connect their inference to evidence in the picture. This deck targets beginning skills in inferencing, identifying emotions, answering “why” questions, using visual/contextual clues, receptive language, social-pragmatic language, and supporting an answer with evidence. The consistent LOOK → THINK → CHOOSE visual provides a repeatable strategy that can also be used outside of the activity to encourage students to slow down, examine available information, and think before responding. Level 2 builds directly from Level 1: the visual scenes remain familiar while the reasoning demand increases from “How does the person feel?” to “How do they feel—and what clues tell us that?”
