Welcome to Categorization - Categorizing by group - A! Designing a vocabulary and word retrieval therapy program can seem like a daunting task. However, research has clearly shown us very specific strategies that have proven to be successful in improving these skills.. Being able to categorize allows us to learn, store, and retrieve new words. This skill further enables us to define, describe, and compare and contrast words. When a new word is categorized correctly in a specific file folder of your brain - along with associated words - you are better able to retrieve it. In this deck you will find categorization activities for 8 common groups, including: transportation, fruits, clothing, appliances, jungle animals, school supplies, tools, and insects. For each group you will be able to practice a variety of categorization skills; including, why do things go together, name the group, add to the group, list items in a group, what doesn't belong and why, guess the item -listening to description, auditory comprehension of a spoken paragraph, using phonemic/descriptive cues to generate a new list of items in the group. Have Fun!!
