Description: Learning some science about our speech mechanism (aka machine) prior starting articulation, fluency, voice or even language therapy is important for kids of ALL ages. Being able to talk the language of speech therapy is powerful and also builds self-awareness! 1) Use the teaching visuals to teach children about the various parts of the speech machine and their functions (brain, lungs, mouth {lips, teeth, palate}, larynx/voicebox, vocal folds, and ears). 2) Use the various "build a speech machine" activities to let students apply their new knowledge by dragging and dropping speech helpers to the correct areas on the kids' bodies! Two difficulty levels are included. 3) Use the matching activities to firm up students' knowledge of body parts and function by matching those up! Drag to match the speech helper with its function! Both a text option for readers and a picture option for non-readers are included. 4) Try the fun and interactive "speech machine in action" activities so kids can experience and discuss the multi sensory features of their own speech mechanism. 5) Use the more rigorous "show what I know" activities to assess and show off their new learning. Children look at real life photos to decide which parts of the speech machine are at work in the photo. I predict great discussions may come from this!
