Build It! 7 gives students interactive practice composing and decomposing 7 using a concrete, visual model. This deck is part of the Build It! Number Composition & Decomposition 5–9 series. For a complete progression through these foundational number relationships, look for the Build It! 5–9 Bundle, which includes all five decks. These activities are based on the exact way I introduce this foundational number sense skill with my own students: using a concrete-first approach. Students build each target number by moving flat glass marbles onto the two sides of a domino card, helping them visualize all the possible combinations that make the target number. These Boom Cards are designed to support—not replace—hands-on learning. After students have explored composing and decomposing numbers with real manipulatives, Boom Cards provide meaningful practice in a digital format. Boom Cards are an ideal tool for the practice stage because students continue manipulating objects while receiving immediate feedback. Rather than simply memorizing number combinations, they develop an understanding of part-whole relationships and the flexible number sense needed for future mathematical thinking.
