Students with language disorders often struggle to comprehend math concepts and word problems. We feel like we are constantly hearing from teachers that our “speech kids” are able to complete math computation well but begin to struggle when more language is involved. We created this resource to help support those students! This packet targets the vocabulary, linguistic concepts, and syntax that are frequently seen in math word problems. Vocabulary - Vocabulary Sort – students sort vocabulary to corresponding math operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) - Key Word Search – students locate key vocabulary words and identify the math operation Linguistic Concepts - Concept Match – match pictures to math concepts like more, longest, least Syntax - Passive Voice – students rewrite provided sentences in active/passive voice - Noun Phrases – students identify the noun phrases in word problems to help them answer the questions
