Description: This resource includes probes for informally assessing how a child uses and understands complement clauses. It can be used after a formal assessment indicates language needs, to collect data to set goals, and/or to monitor progress. The resource also includes some information about complement clauses for SLPs, including suggestions for eliciting complement clauses in structured tasks. Each probe offers two suggested prompts to elicit a target sentence. ‘Elicitation’ prompts elicit complement clauses without an initial model from the clinician. ‘Repetition’ prompts elicit complement clauses through providing initial models similar to target forms. The probes are divided into the following sections: Simple nonfinite (He likes to run) Nonfinite, two subjects (Mom wants the boy to run) Finite, one noun (I saw (that) you got an A) Finite, two nouns (He told mom (that) Mary was sleeping) Finite, ‘wh’ complements (I know where you are going) Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions at info@liftlanguageandliteracy.com.
