Description

Students are given 2 images that represent part of the compound word. Below are many choices as to what the answer is. They drag the correct image to the box at the top left corner and then type the word that was created. In an effort to support all learners the following scaffolds are in place. 1.) behind each of the top images is the word the student needs. If not needed they wont see it, but there are times when it is hard to guess the word from the image. Ex: the 1st card has an image of a work sign. The answer is work, but a student might only consider the word sign. This deck is not meant to stress a student out; so they need only move the image to be successful. 2.) I know not every kid will know how to spell the compound word, so behind the actual answer is the word the student needs to type into the answer box at the top left corner. I want my kids to practice, despite their reading or writing level. There are 18 compound word images to start with and 19 more are inserted as the deck progresses. (each time one is used as an answer I replace it) so as an extension, have students identify the compound words left on the board at the end. They are: Gingerbread, doghouse, blackbird, sunglasses, upstairs, sandcastle, suitcase, handbag, jellybeans, seaweed, campfire, fingerprint, handshake, baseball, lipstick, fireplace.
