Description: Teach students how to make mental pictures using the main idea and details with photos. This allows students to get a solid grasp of the concept so you can scaffold to harder tasks. This deck is designed to practice identifying the main idea & details and practice holding a picture in your imagination aka nonverbal working memory. This deck has three sections. Section One is a lesson with questions every 2-3 slides so you can continually check for understanding and help students engage with the material.. Teach students about their imagination and why understanding the main idea and details is important! Level one practice is where the students can practice identifying the main idea and details in simple illustrations. Starting off with simple pictures helps you see if students understand the main idea and details. Do they know what are key details? What is important to remember? Level two allows students to practice with real pictures! These pictures can also be used as conversation starters, creating sentences, describing, wh questions, and many other targets! Without mental pictures, children cannot anchor information. Children without these skills will always struggle to understand and retain information.
