A complete and thorough lesson on a difficult skills for many students: detecting and interpreting sarcasm, including: Home page, Learning outcomes, Self-rating, Detecting sarcasm pre-test T/F, drag and drop, Example of how sarcasm changes meaning, A breakdown of the clues we look for when detecting sarcasm, including: Facial expression and body language, Tone of voice, Looking for mismatches, Context and what do you know about the person? For each sign, students are given specific teaching and an opportunity (multiple choice or type response) to demonstrate their understanding of the material. 16 slides where students use a sarcasm checklist to decide if the background information, tone (audio clips included) and body language indicate sarcasm. If sarcastic, students type how they could make it a sincere message and can record themselves! 7 slides on interpreting sarcasm, where students read and listen and type the true meaning of what the sarcastic person was saying in a thought bubble. The last slide has students rate their comfort detecting sarcasm using emojis. Real photographs of middle school, high school and young adults are used and mutiple skin tones are represented. Students have the option to hear audio directions. Where indicated, students can record themselves and play it back. Audio clips are included.
