Michaela takes you to various places in the community: school, the bakery, the post office, and all of the places in between before finally returning home with one more math problem with her mom. Each card has word problems with pre-recorded audio read aloud for your struggling readers. Michaela encounters a real life situation in each setting as well as on her way to each place. Each math problem then leads to visuals that offer strategies to assist in persevering through problem solving. This deck is mainly aligned with CCSS.1.OA (Operations and Algebraic Thinking) but touches upon other areas of common core in the math strands. Designed for middle to late first grade, this can also be great for older elementary grades or for Kindergarten with guidance. I had a lot of fun creating this deck - and even more fun playing with my first grade virtual students by sharing my screen! My son, who is in second grade enjoyed playing as well.
