Description: This deck takes you through a little girl's day from the morning until night and all of the encounters she has with math problems throughout her journey. Michaela takes you to various places in the community: school, the bakery, the post office, and all of the places in between before finally returning home with one more math problem with her mom. Each card has word problems with pre-recorded audio read aloud for your struggling readers. Michaela encounters a real life situation in each setting as well as on her way to each place. Each math problem then leads to visuals that offer strategies to assist in persevering through problem solving. This deck is mainly aligned with CCSS.1.OA (Operations and Algebraic Thinking) but touches upon other areas of common core in the math strands. Designed for middle to late first grade, this can also be great for older elementary grades or for Kindergarten with guidance. I had a lot of fun creating this deck - and even more fun playing with my first grade virtual students by sharing my screen! My son, who is in second grade enjoyed playing as well. Loaded with eye-catching clip art from talented artists (who are credited below), this deck is great for asynchronous online math work, or as a whole group interactive lesson. It offers opportunities to discuss strategies that can be used to solve problems. Please visit my store to find this deck in a bundle with all of the other topics of first grade CCSS: NBT, G, and MD!
