Description

This Healthy vs. Unhealthy Romantic Relationships activity is designed to help teens and adults develop the social awareness and critical thinking skills they need to recognise what respectful, supportive romantic relationships look and feel like. Through a series of relatable, real-world scenarios, students will read about different situations that can arise in romantic relationships and decide whether each one reflects a healthy or unhealthy dynamic. This activity goes beyond simple good and bad examples by exploring the nuance and complexity of real relationships. Scenarios cover themes such as trust, communication, jealousy, control, boundaries, personal space, disagreements, emotional safety, and maintaining friendships and individual identity outside of a relationship. A key focus of this activity is helping students understand that conflict and disagreement are a normal and healthy part of any relationship, and that what matters is how those disagreements are handled. Students will also explore the importance of spending time apart, keeping up with friends, and maintaining a sense of self within a romantic relationship.
