More Than Invisible: Being Understood - A neuroaffirming pragmatics resource for teens and adults Sometimes people don’t misunderstand us because we are wrong. Sometimes something just gets translated differently. This interactive BoomCards deck explores four common areas where communication mismatches can happen: • My Words (what I say) • My Voice (tone, volume, prosody) • My Timing (when / how I enter conversations) • My Message (what I meant vs what was heard) Through reflective prompts and real-life scenarios, learners are invited to notice patterns in a calm, non-corrective way. This resource does not focus on compliance or masking. Instead, it introduces optional “translation tools” that support clarity while preserving identity. Students will: • Identify areas where misunderstandings may occur • Explore how tone, timing, and interpretation affect meaning • Practice clarification and repair phrases • Build personalized self-advocacy statements • Reflect on communication differences without shame Each scenario is written in a neutral, validating tone. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers. The goal is awareness, autonomy, and choice. This resource is appropriate for: • Autistic teens • Late-diagnosed adolescents and adults • Social communication groups • Neurodivergent learners exploring self-advocacy You are not invisible. Sometimes you are untranslated.
