This 33-card scavenger hunt can be used to review or to teach students about the California Gold Rush. While completing the hunt, students will learn who discovered the gold, how miners panned for gold, what happened to the man who owned the land the first gold was discovered on, why the gold rush ended, and more. To complete the hunt, answer 16 multiple-choice questions. First, they read a question and its possible answers. Then they read the information that will help them answer it. If they choose the correct answer, they are directed to the next question. If their answer is incorrect, they can reread the text to find the correct answer. The final card in the deck challenges students to write 3 interesting things they learned about the Gold Rush. The hunt can be used to enhance a study of western expansion, to provide background information for a story, to practice reading informational text, or as easy activity for a sub.
