Description
Like all skills, students need practice. However, in a science lab I find that most often we as teachers gather the materials needed for the day’s lab, place them in a bin, and the kids get to work when they come in. It saves us time, keeps everything organized, but do the students really know which tool they need? No, I discovered, they do not. This slide deck gives students the opportunity to become familiar with the tools and to practice determining which tool is needed for a job without you having to pull all of your lab tools out and then deal with the mess of clean up. This Boom Cards deck contains: •5 cards consisting of a review of Mass, Volume, Length, Temperature, and Time – including a review of the tools that could be used to measure each. •3 cards in which students match tools with the concept or unit to be measured (for example, match the graduated cylinder will to volume and milliliters) •17 cards in which students must decide which tools could be used in a given scenario (for example, select all tools that could be used when finding the mass of a sea shell – pan balance, spring scale, triple beam balance, gram weights)
