Description: Students will develop phonemic awareness, orthographic mapping and decoding skills as they tap and blend sounds to read words with consonant blends. This deck contains 64 cards, so it provides lots of practice with sounding out and reading words with initial consonant blends. There's also a quick comprehension check to ensure kids have read the word correctly. This deck is consistent with the science of reading and structured literacy or Orton Gillingham programs, but it would also be a great addition to your literacy centers, or any phonics or word work curriculum. How it works: • Kids see a word with dots underneath each letter and then tap out the sounds in the word. They slide their finger along the arrow as they blend the sounds to read the word, and then they choose the picture that matches the word. Pictures of similar sounding words are included to make sure the word was read correctly. Good to Know: • Audio support is included for all pictures and the instructions. • All words are one syllable with short vowel sounds. A few cards contain digraphs, but you can easily hide these if you prefer. • While the tapping and blending build decoding skills, this deck can also be used for fluency practice as kids become more proficient at reading words. They can go through the deck quickly without tapping at that point.
