Description: Develop comprehension skills at the sentence level DURING YOUR PHONICS LESSONS using picture scenes and a yes/no choice. This deck contains 20 cards with one-line decodable sentences for CVC WORDS with MIXED SHORT VOWELS (a, e, i, o, u). Students will look at the picture, read the sentence, and determine if the sentence matches the picture. - If the sentence is true (matches the picture), mark yes - If the sentence is false, mark no. This helps students develop comprehension skills within phonics lessons. It also introduces the concept of true/false alongside yes/no. Working with one-line of text and the foundational yes/no concept makes these cards accessible for students who struggle with answering questions about things they read. Many of the CVC words including in these sentences are used in the same sentence structure, but in a different order. Students must read each sentence closely and can analyze how word order can change a sentence's meaning. The picture scenes and sentences are somewhat silly and illogical. This creates opportunities to develop expressive language skills. Students can discuss what they see and explain why it makes sense or why it doesn't. Scenes and sentences are designed to keep students attentive, motivated, and excited to read. These task cards are aligned with the Science of Reading evidence base and Orton-Gillingham approach to reading intervention.
