This resource contains language activities meant to be paired with the story The Mitten by Jan Brett. While reading the story you can use the story companion visual and allow students to put the animals in the mitten. After reading the story choose from 6 different activities: 1. 20 Wh/ Comprehension questions about the story (field of 3 responses) 2. 9 "Who's Inside the Mitten?" cards: slide the mitten over to see which animal is in the mitten. Ask students to use the sentence starter to tell who they see and to formulate a 3-4 word utterance. 3. Find, Label, & Match The Storybook Characters Sensory Bin 4. Describe the Mittens! Roll the snowball over to reveal a fun mitten. Then ask students to drag the descriptor(s) into the sentence starter to formulate a 4-word utterance. There are 10 total. 5. Receptive vocabulary (from the story)- field of 4, 12 cards 6. Put the Animals Inside the Mitten- following 2-step directions (with prepositions and sequencing). 10 cards When you reach the card with a stop sign in the top corner, you will know you've reached the end of that activity.
